For a moment lay aside
Cunning tricks and elfish play,
'Tis at happy Christmas-tide.

Gentle children, whom we love -

Still, as Christmas-tide comes round,
They remember it again -
Echo still the joyful sound
"Peace on earth, good-will to men!"
Yet the hearts must childlike be
Where such heavenly guests abide;
Unto children, in their glee,
All the year is Christmas-tide!
Thus, forgetting tricks and play
For a moment, Lady dear,
We would wish you, if we may,
Merry Christmas, Glad New Year!

Hi Jhonny. I'm very glad you learned with the text. The meaning of "cunning" is "esperteza", on this case "truque espertos".

for sure, i've learned more new words, like: glee, christmas tide, lay aside, and others. how many words we learn, how great will be our learning... threfore i am here, thanking you. But, there is only one word that i don't know the meaning: CUNNING. If you know this meaning, please tell me! thanks Jhonny viana
